Round Up of Mainstream Material of Cellphones.

Being of the hardcore on every single smart phone nowadays, the screen will effect the entire experience straight. It’s hard to tell the name of screen especially those concepts are flying around us e.g. IPS, Retina, ASV and etc. In essence, there are merely two mainstream materials on the market named: LCD and OLED.

1. Mainstream LCD screen.

LCD is a kind of traditional material which has developed technology and divides to several subclasses like TFT, IPS, and SLCD. One thing should be aware of is the concept of TFT and LCD; TFT, been treated as, a general terms of all kinds of LCD panels while here we categorized it as a sub classification of LCD.

A.  TFT Screen.

TFT actually is a superior form of all LCD screen. This type of material works properly and applies to Defy+, Sony ST25i, Sony LT22i and etc. An old material like TFT,theoretically speaking, has been optimized by manufactures and end up with good result. Whereas some of factories are using interior TFT in order to save cost.

B. IPS Screen.

IPS, aka Super TFT, is a new level of TFT as its street name implies. The advantages of IPS can be listed as brightness, wide-vision and good display effect, for instance, iPhone series.

AMOLED is one of the mainstream subclass of OLED which carried forward by Samsung. It has evolved to 3rd generation: AMOLED, Super AMOLED, Super AMOLED Plus.

It’s easy to distinguish the OLED and LCD via the displaying method. Under this aspect, OLED is much more advanced than LCD and OLED can be thinner thus the cellphone’s thickness can be reduced dramatically.

The typical case of OLED is Samsung AMOLED which features good brightness that works flawless under the strong sunshine; meanwhile, the advantage turn it back to us for the high contrast that causes color rendition.

AMOLED

A. AMOLED

AMOLED is the first generation screen of Samsung which is almost faded. Nokia N86, N8 are using this screen.

B. Super AMOLED

Super AMOLED is the second generation which derives Super AMOLED Advanced and HD Super AMOLED. This one is wide-used nowadays and become the elite unit in Samsung’s products.

Super AMOLED comes with highly saturation and brightness, while granularity is obvious for the P style. Super AMOLED Advanced and HD Super AMOLED have superior resolutions which sort this out somewhat.

C. Super AMOLED Plus.

Super AMOLED Plus, an improving product of Super AMOLED is using RGB orientation instead of Pentile. By using this orientation, the high granularity issues is optimized somewhat. Compared i9100 with i9000, the technology does work well but the color rendition becomes worse than before. Samsung prefers to use HD Super AMOLED based on its new released smart phone.

Round up.

Classified the mainstream material from cell phones we use now, the answer can be LCD and OLED. There are essential differences from displaying. One is using the out source while the other is bright from its own. They have respective advantages and reviews and they will fit the requirements from targeting consumers.
